4 FAQs about Does building a solar-powered communication cabinet inverter require approval
How is a solar energy project approved?
The approval process for a solar energy project involves several basic steps. First, a permit application is submitted for review by a local permitting agency, known as the “enforcing agency.” Typically, the contractor installing the solar energy system will submit the permit on behalf of the building owner.
What happens if a solar inverter is approved?
After final approval, PPL will add the tested inverter model to its Approved List of Solar Inverters. At that time, the inverter will appear in the Renewable Energy Connection DG web portal for selection when completing an interconnection application.
Do you need a permit to install solar panels?
Before installing solar panels, contractors must meet local solar permit requirements by obtaining approval from the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ). Since solar panel permit requirements and building codes vary widely, understanding local solar permitting rules is essential, especially when additional zoning regulations are involved.
Do I need a module or kit for a solar inverter?
For inverters where an additional module or kit is required to make the communication interface/port available, as indicated on the approved solar inverter list, the module or kit must be included as part of the installed system. NOTE: PPL’s current DER management device is not compatible with IEEE Std 2030.5 (SEP2) inverters.
